Free Education in Mon Laza
FREE SCHOOL: Around 60 children receive a free education on the hilltop slum of Mon Laza. More than 40 students are packed into one classroom, and there are not enough books and notebooks to go around, but classes are still held every day.

Mon Laza School

The Mon Laza school started in September 2007 when several participants in SODA’s summer teacher training seminar decided to open a free alternative school on this hilltop slum just minutes from the wealthy suburb of Petionville. They give an education to 60 children who otherwise would not be able to afford to go to school. For now, the Mon Laza teachers are giving classes in a private religious school that has allowed them to use the building in the afternoon. More than 40 students are packed into one classroom, and there are not enough books and notebooks to go around, but classes are still held every day.
