Pele Simon School

In October 2007, a group of young people who had participated in a teacher-training seminar run by SODA founded a free alternative school in the Pele Simon neighborhood, one of the poorest slums in Port-au-Prince. The school has 11 volunteer teachers and 53 children, from the ages of five to 17, who would not otherwise be able to afford to go to school. Classes are held everyday from 1pm until 5:30pm with gym class every Saturday.
